Join the bandwagon! Be grateful that Disney bought Pixar!
Disney Reviving Hand-Drawn Animation
The Walt Disney Co. is planning to revive traditional hand-drawn animation next year with its live-action/animated Enchanted, Disney watcher Jim Hill reported on his website today (Wednesday). A traditionally animated test sequence has already been created for the film by veteran Disney animator James Baxter, best known for his supervision of the character Belle in Beauty and the Beast, according to Hill. "And those who have seen this particular piece of rough animation say that it is 'simply stunning. A wonderful throwback to the sort of films that Disney used to make.'" Baxter, Hill said, has been secretly working on the sequence with a small crew at his own studio in Pasadena, and, he added, his work is likely to be displayed by Pixar's John Lasseter and Ed Catmull as they make their well-known case for reviving hand-drawn animation to Disney chief Robert Iger. Said Hill: "They're going to tell Iger: 'Doesn't that look terrific? People are really going to eat this picture up. They've been waiting for Disney to do a new film that features traditional animation. Which is why this movie is going to do HUGE box office next year.'"

Gee...Disney thinks they might have huge box office success with an animated princess story? No...really? Disney doing what Disney does best? I'm so glad you guys figured it out! Goodness! I had no idea that it was so hard to figure out. I mean, forget about the fact that three of your last four HUGE HUGE HUGE hits (which for the record I would consider Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beat, Aladdin, and Lion King) are princess stories! Lion King was just the greatest fluke known to man! </ Lion King loving>
But honestly...I have not seen anything I'm unhappy about since Disney bought Pixar...none! Pixar's gone in, taken back what's rightfully theirs (CGI) and told Disney to get their butts in gear and be Disney again. *hugs all*

Date: 2006-02-23 02:47 pm (UTC)I have issues with Lilo and Stitch and I can't quite pinpoint what they are...I love the matte paintings, but something irks me...I think Lilo is just too cute...maybe? I dunno. And I agree with Treasure Planet; I still think it's alot of fun, but at the same time...it's so noticable what's hand drawn and what's not that it's just irritating. [non-Disney] it's the same problem I have with Anastasia, even though I really do love it[/non-Disney] I just hope they suddenly remember how to use a computer when drawing by hand, and how to make it virtually seamless. I mean, the first time they did it, with Great Mouse Detective, was more seamless than it was with Treasure Planet.
